A visit from the PhotoJunkie

February 1st, 2007

Blogger Rannie Turingan came by my place with his Wii for an evening of Wii-markable games. We fended off weird rabbits and played tennis and golf with weeble like avatars. Intriguing. Rannie shot a couple of pix as part if his latest photo blog projectcheck it out. BTW, my face stayed like that until breakfast the next day.

goodbye CFH

January 19th, 2007

Well it was a sad goodbye last night. I shot two guest spots episodes with Leo on CFH in Toronto in the afternoon. And then I joined Leo and the CFH crew (including my LabRats co-ho Sean Carruthers) for a farewell dinner. (was also lovely to see Amber who popped in for dins - I see her a lot tho now that I do the Q&A on Homepage on CP24.)

It was bittersweet.  Sad to see Leo and the show leave Toronto. And sad that heads into a new production without co-hosts. I left in Aug 05 and wasn’t replaced. Then Amber left in Aug 06. And now Leo heads to Vancouver to host the show — renamed “The Lab with Leo Laporte” — solo. However he is good company with talented producer Matt Harris moving to the west coast to lend his producing expertise. Matt as you may remember produced my field segments on CFH.

The good news is a fresh start can bring good things. And now I have good reason to visit Vancouver. I lived there 92-94 and worked as a reporter at the Vancouver Province newspaper and dabbled in the film business.

Anyway all the best to Leo and Victor Lucas, a charming and talented TV entrepeneur, who helms the new production company Greedy Productions.

Good luck guys! I am rooting for you.

Usability Study of Cyberwalker 2.0

December 9th, 2006

As you know, we recently launched version 2.0 of Cyberwalker.com. And now we’re tweaking the site to improve it.

We are looking for readers to help us do this in a small usability study. This will help us make the site easier and faster to use.

If you volunteer, you’ll be asked to attempt a series of tasks on the site and grade how easy they are to accomplish and to offer suggestions on how to improve them.

If you are interested in taking part in the study, please email Chris Thorpe at chris at cyberwalker dot com and include “Usability Study” in the subject line. Chris will then get back to you with further details.

Participants will receive a Cyberwalker T-shirt to show our appreciation of their efforts.

Giving back to Little Geeks

October 17th, 2006

I have a new dream. It’s time for me to give back because I have received somuch in my life from technology. I hope you’ll join me in a new good works project called Little Geeks.
I have a vision to give a generation of underprivileged kids an Internet connected computer so they can grow up without being on the wrong side of the digital divide.

The idea of being a child without access to such an important tool for growth, education and everyday life just breaks my heart.
So I am creating a new good works project called Little Geeks. And I need your help.

The project is 4 days old. So any and all help, ideas and resources you can offer would be wonderful.

Detailed info about Little Geeks, how it came about, and how you can join me in making a better world, one little geek at a time, is here. Please let me know if you can help or if you have any ideas. Email andy at cyberwalker dot com.
