Behind the scenes

We’re about to go into production here in Toronto on the next 15 shows of Call for Help and when we’re done we’ll have finished 135 episodes of v 2.0 of the show. Quite amazing to me. Anyway I was browsing through some behind the scenes shots that our gadget guy Sean Carruthers shot and found a few that are loads of fun. So here they are for your viewing pleasure…

Andy prepping for the bandwidth segment

Prepping for the segment: “What ‘bandwidth’ means”.

in the Barbie pool

I always have to put my Barbie pool (got that at Canadian Tire - a household goods chain of stores here in Canada) down when there is water on set because you know the water isn’t going to stay where it is supposed to be with Leo around.

Reclining after a lab segment

Leo, Amber and I preparing to finish the show, after my segment where we temperature tested Mikey’s lap.

Ready to go on the Mikey laptop test

Ready to go with the segment where I test Mikey’s lap temperate to ensure his boys aren’t overheated by his laptop.
This was a segment I concoted after reading that men’s fertility could be adversely affected by hot laptops.

    Very funny stuff, Andy.

    Haven’t these segments already aired?

  3. Andy Walker Says:

Yes they aired Feb 10 and Feb 17, but you’ll surely see them come around again in Canada. Australia bought at least one of these episodes - I think it was the “bandwidth” epsiode, but uncertain as to when it will air. -Andy

At the end of the “bandwidth” episode they got Amber with the water! At that point you can hear amber say “I wouldn’t mind but we have more episodes to film”. HAHA! Great stuff Andy!

Amber getting hosed is probably worth the monthly cost of Tech TV :P Seeing as this is the only show I watch on there now.

Bandwidth vs. Latency is one of the hardest things to explain, be nice to see how you guys did it. Hopefully it airs again soon.

Question, do you guys mix and match segments to make up a slightly different show? IE the same segment is on 3 shows? I swear every time I watch the show now, you’re in your SPAM shirt talking about Spam blockers.

  6. Andy Walker Says:

I know. Lately that spam one has been running alot. Not sure why that is. Wish they ran best-of on the weekends. -A.

Uh huh!!! Now we know DIY definitely has to pick up this show for the USA!!! lol :-D Those were good segments…at least they got the point across. ;-)
