Sunday, July 10th, 2005

Just spent two days on the HMCS Toronto, a Canadian frigate that came down the St Lawrence River for a summer tour of the Great Lakes. Shot a couple of segments on the technologies on the ship which you will see on CFH in September.
Here’s a few pix (click for a large version)…

Microsoft to buy Claria?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Say it aint so but Microsoft is rumored to be sniffing at very unpopular adware company Claria (formerly Gator) as a possible acquisition. No one’s talking and it’s largely rumor but consider this: Microsoft AntiSpyware (beta) is recommending Claria adware be “ignored”. See this. Just reaffirms our position on Call for Help that you […]

Google discloses email on “governmental request”

Friday, June 24th, 2005

Google has been very clear that it will not violate a person’s privacy and disclose content of email stored on its Gmail service to third parties except under very specific circumstances. This includes complying with a law. However there is an alarming clause in its privacy policy that says:
“We do not disclose your personally […]

Mr Excel’s new book

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

Bill Jelen, aka Mr Excel, has a new book out:
The Spreadsheet at 25: The invention that changed the world
It’s very cool. It is published by Holy Macro! Books. The ISBN is 1-932802-04-5.
And my favorite bit — it has a popup in the middle!
Amazon.ca says it is available in 4-6 weeks, but in reality, they […]

Apple and Intel - hmmmm

Monday, June 6th, 2005

Viewer Larry Pham sent me these notes on Apple’s developer conference. Check them out:
http://www.appleinsider.com/wwdc2005.php

And the official version:
www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/jun/06intel.html
The transition by Apple to the Intel platform is extraordinary news. Ironically, Mac OS on Intel in machines due out June 06 coincides with when the buzz about Longhorn’s (next version of Windows) launch will start. 2006 is going […]

This Canadian bank…

… is offering a free iPod Shuffle for switching accounts. They don’t say whether its the 512 MB or the 1 GB version.
I suspect the former, but still it beats a toaster. (BTW, I just bought a Shuffle. My iMac has become my stereo.)

Andy Jetson

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

And the toons keep coming…CFH viewer Jeffrey Steven sent this toon he did of me after hearing that I’m a Jetsons fan. (I have been working on a book project for the last few years called The Jetson Prophesy - one of many projects.)
Anyway, I’m amazed by the talent of all the folks out there. […]
